Regent Makes History At The Ben Snelling Cancer Classic: Women's Cross Country Claims Classic Title, While Men Finish 2nd Overall

Louisburg, NC – For the past few years, Head Coach Michael Rose has been quietly building a Cross Country program that can compete at the highest level of competition.  Each year the talent has increased and so have the numbers on the team. On Friday afternoon, his efforts finally paid off when history was by the Regent University Men's and Women's Cross Country teams as the Royals competed in the annual Ben Snelling Cancer Classic.  For the first time in program history, the Women finished first overall, while the Men finished in second place.  Not only did both teams have their highest finishes ever, but the Women dominated the field with runners crossing the line 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th and 14th, while the Men had runners place 3rd, 4th, 11th, 13th and 14th.  Official times will be posted once received; however, the following is the order of finish. 

 Women's 5K  

1 Freshman Louise Monga-Rochard (Toano, VA)  

2 Freshman Virginia Henson (Spotsylvania, VA)  

3 Freshman Gabrielle Butler (New Kent, VA)  

4 Sophomore Samantha Bodnar (Calgary, Alberta)  

7 Freshman Abigail Gould (Fredericksburg, VA)  

14 Sophomore Jordana Foose (Chesterfield, VA)  

Men's 8K 

3 Sophomore Thomas Slingluff (Suffolk, VA)  

4Freshman Bryce Nearman (Stafford, VA)  

11 Freshman Cayden Sierra (Newport News, VA)  

13 Freshman Creighton Hartsell (Newport News, VA)  

14 Sophomore Jacob Winck (Breezewood, PA)  

Regent will be back in action on Friday, October 10th when they travel to Petersburg, VA to participate in the Virginia State University XC Challenge.  Start time is scheduled for 4:30pm.
