Tina Howton was born and raised in Portsmouth, VA. Tina graduated from Portsmouth Christian Schools, and then attended Liberty University, where she got her Bachelors in Elementary Education. While at Liberty, she was a member of the cheerleading squad. She is currently a 5th grade teacher at Portsmouth Christian Schools and has been married for 3 years. Her and her husband are currently expecting their first child in April.
In the cheerleading field, Tina brings years of passion and experience. She cheered throughout middle and high school, and was able to continue on at the collegiate level at Liberty University. While in college, she cheered four summers for Christian Cheerleaders of America (CCA) where she realized her love for teaching/coaching others the sport she loves so much. After college, Tina transferred her love for cheer from the sidelines and mat to coaching at the middle/high school level. Her middle school/high school squads competed several times through CCA, and were able to win a national championship and a grand championship. In her first year coaching at Regent, Tina was able to lead the team to become national collegiate stunt champions at the 2019 CCA Nationals Competition.
Tina chose Regent because she wanted to push herself and get involved in collegiate athletics. After seeing Regent compete at a CCA event, Tina reached out to see if there were any opportunities to join the coaching staff, and jumped at the chance to become the second head coach of the program. Since being at Regent, she has fallen in love with the atmosphere on campus and mission and goal of the university to train Christian leaders to change the world. Her goal within the cheer program is to help train athletes to not only love their sport and use the talents that the Lord has given them, but to find a love for Christ and to develop a personal relationship with him. Being a Royal means being an ambassador for the University and for Christ. The cheer program takes this responsibility personally, as they strive to help promote the university and the athletics program. But most importantly, the coaching staff wants to make sure that their student-athletes take what they learn in the classroom and on the mat, and change the world around them once they leave Regent. The mission of the cheer program is to build each other up through our words, actions, and showing the love of Christ. The successes of the team are not only measured by championships and trophies, but also through the relationships formed and the spiritual development of the squad.
