After a dominate year in Regent’s inaugural season, Colby Yawn will transition from the court to the sidelines in his first year as Head Coach, as he takes over for Coach Katelyn Totherow, who was recently named the new Women’s Beach Volleyball Head Coach in addition to her head coaching duties with the Women’s Indoor program.
“We are excited and pleased to have Colby join our staff as the next men’s volleyball coach”, said Director of Athletics Michael W. Allen. “As a former player, he established himself as a leader on our team last year during our inaugural campaign. As he now shifts over to the coaching side, I have full confidence Colby will bring instant credibility with our players per his past playing experience, his energy, and his drive to help grow this program. Most importantly, he fits and supports our university’s mission, and we cannot wait to see how God works through Coach Yawn as he continues to grow the men’s volleyball program.
As a player, Yawn was a two-time NCCAA National Player of the Week, while finishing his final season ranked #3 Nationally in Service Aces and Services Aces in a three-set match. In addition, he is currently the Regent record-holder for Most Assists in a Single Game and the program’s All-Time Assist Leader. Yawn will return a team that had immediate success in its inaugural season as he prepares to guide them in their first season at the NCAA DIII level and as members of the Coast-To-Coast Conference.
“I am super excited about taking on this position as head coach and want to thank Coach Allen for giving me the opportunity to lead the program”, said Yawn. “I look forward to continuing the progress that has already been built and to further establishing Regent University in the men’s volleyball community”.
The Royals will open up their second season in January 2026.
