Women's Soccer Falls to Hampton University in Season Opener

Norfolk, VA - The Regent Royals women's soccer team lost 10-0 to NCAA  Division I opponent Hampton University in their season opener on Monday, August 29th. The Royals showed defensive grit throughout the match as they fought to pressure and stifle Hampton's attack, but ultimately the aggressive Pirate offense proved too much.

Royals Standouts -
Graduate student Kelsey Goodson played 90 minutes of hard-nosed defense, winning multiple 50-50 balls and displaying great instincts to organize her team in time to force numerous offside calls.
Freshman Ariana Barrera came off the bench to give the Royals much-needed flexibility filling in multiple positions while playing with an aggressiveness above her size to try and slow the Hampton offense.

Coaches Corner-
Despite the tough loss, Coach Moorehead says, "I saw a lot of growth from our team tonight. They showed excellent communication, never let down their efforts, and kept fighting throughout the entire game."

Team Notes-
The Royals move to 0-1 for the year and will look for their first win against Salem College on Saturday, September 3 at 1:00 PM. The game will be played at Norfolk Christian School and is the first game of a double header with the men's soccer team taking the field at 4:00 PM.
