Greenville, SC – The Regent Women's Basketball team traveled to the Upstate to begin a two-game weekend road trip which saw them face off with Bob Jones University on Friday night. It would be a battle of two teams looking to get back in the win column. The Royals played strong and fast, but unfortunately were not able to come away with the win.
Regent's defense was solid to begin the first quarter and that allowed the offense to start clicking to take the early lead, behind a three-pointer from Junior Jabarria Brown (Paterson, NJ). Senior Kali Murrell (Long Beach, CA) continued to keep the Royals ahead, while Brown found her stroke behind the three-point line to increase the advantage to 12-7. However, the Bruins would eventually take their first lead of the game, but Regent was able to come back and tie the score. As the quarter ended, though, they would trail 20-16.
Graduate Student Brooke Glisson (Virginia Beach, VA) got things started in the second quarter, converting two free throws and then Brown was able to, once again, find the basket. Another score from Glisson pulled the Royals to within three points, but Bob Jones continued to score three-point attempts. Murrell would drain a three-pointer of her own to keep Regent close, but the Bruins had an answer and took the lead into the locker room, 43-32.
Glisson and Junior Lyriq Reyes (Bogtoa, NJ) converted back-to-back baskets to begin the third quarter. However, Bob Jones continued to have an answer, increasing their advantage to 49-36. Freshman My'Angel Carter (Toccoa, GA) got in on the scoring but as the quarter came to an end, the Royals would trail 66-44.
The fourth quarter saw Carter and Murrell find the basket again, but unfortunately, Regent was unable to mount a comeback. Despite a strong effort they would fall by a final score of 93-61.
The Royals will return to action tomorrow, Saturday, December 9th, as they travel to the Low Country to face USC-Beaufort. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30pm.
