Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Regent battles Greensboro in a physical match

Virginia Beach, VA – On a breezy Thursday afternoon at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex, the Regent University Women's Soccer team hosted Greensboro College. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday, but with the threat of inclement weather, it was moved back a day, and the weather did not disappoint. In fact, there was a special bonus as the United States Navy's Blue Angels were flying over the field in formation, practicing for this weekend's air show.

As the first half began, the pace of both teams was both fast and physical. While Regent had some scoring opportunities, with two shots hitting the cross bar and the post, it would be the Pride who were able to find the back of the net. With those conversions, Greensboro took the lead into halftime, 3-0. In the second half, the Royals defense held strong and Freshman Goalkeeper Gracie Madden (Ashland, KY) shutout the Pride, not allowing anything to get past her. Fellow Freshman Olivia Charles (Barboursville, WV) directed the offense and put Regent in scoring position but were unable to convert. However, they battled hard to keep the half scoreless. Unfortunately, as time expired, the Royals would fall by a final score of 3-0.

Regent will have a short turn around as they hit the road to face Patrick Henry College on Saturday, September 16th, in Purcellville, VA. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00pm.
