Wilson, NC - On Thursday afternoon, the Regent University Men's soccer team boarded two vans and traveled south to North Carolina to face a tough Barton College team. Coach Okai and his team were looking to get back in the win column, but they would have to overcame a strong offensive performance from the Bulldogs if they wanted to earn their third victory of the season. However, after 90 minutes of play, behind a strong defensive effort and an offense that was clicking, the Royals accomplished what they set out to do, earning the hard fought win, 1-0.
The two teams put a lot of pressure on each other to start the game, but Regent was able to break through when Freshman
Joseph Hawkins (Virginia Beach, VA) found Freshman
Tyler Hambright (Stevens, PA) to take the early lead, 1-0. In the second half, Freshman Goalkeeper
Connor Henriques (Spotsylvania, VA) withstood a number of Barton shots to earn the shutout and give the Royals the crucial road victory. For the game, he recorded a total of 12 saves, while the team had a total of 11 corner kicks.
Regent will be back in action on Saturday, October 7th when they host Carolina Christian College at the Hampton Roads Soccer Complex. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30pm.
