Norfolk, VA – After defeating an NCAA Division III team last week, the Regent University Women's Soccer team looked to do it again on Wednesday evening as they welcomed in William Peace University (NCAA DIII, USA South). The Pacers were picked to finish towards the top of their league, but the Royals were looking to continue the momentum they started in their last game.
The first half was back and forth as both teams felt each other out. Regent had several scoring opportunities and were finally able to capitalize at the 19th minute when Freshman Olivia Charles (Barboursville, WV) drilled a shot into the left corner, after taking a pass from Freshman Ayden Malloy (Laconia, NH), to grab the early lead, 1-0. The offense continued to pressure the Pacers, while Goalkeeper, Freshman Kristen Miller (Peoria, AZ) and the defense turned away any opportunities William Peace would try to convert, allowing the Royals to go into halftime with the advantage, 1-0.
As the second half began, both teams were able to attack the goal, which tested new Regent Goalkeeper, Freshman Gracie Madden (Ashland, KY). Unfortunately, the Pacers would break through and tie the game with 8:33 remaining. The Royals had a chance as time was expiring but the clock hit zero before the ball could get into the net and the game would end in a tie, 1-1.
Regent will have a quick turnaround as they host Shaw University at Norfolk Christian on Saturday, September 9th. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
