Rocky Mount, NC – On Wednesday afternoon the Regent University Women's Soccer team took a drive through Emporia and then down I-95 south to face their 10th NCAA Division III school of the season.  Today's opponent would be a strong North Carolina Wesleyan University team, whom they share many common opponents with.  Despite the injury bug hitting them, the Royals were ready to play.

The first half saw the Battling Bishops try to attack Regent's side of the field, but their defense stood strong.  Solid passing by the Royals began to eat away at NCWU's time of possession and they were able to start attacking the Battling Bishops on the offensive end of the field.  Fellow Sophomores Ashli Perez (Virginia Beach, VA) and Rhyan Primmer (Stafford, VA) continued to help turn away any NCWU chances and that allowed Junior Marissa Crawley (Charlotte, NC), Sophomore Sierra Smullen (Snow Hill, MD) and Anna Teague (Salisbury, NC) the opportunity to try to create scoring chances.  Their hard work would pay off as the teams entered halftime tied at 0-0.

The second half started out similar to the first, with Regent's defense fighting off the Battling Bishops, but at the 55-minute mark, NCWU broke the tie to take the lead, 1-0.  However, that goal did not stop the Royals from trying to put together runs as they continued to be active.  Sophomore Kristen Miller (Peoria, AZ) continued her strong play in goal, turning away shots, but unfortunately after a corner kick in the last few seconds of the game, Regent could not tie things up and fell by a final score of 1-0.

The Royals will be back in action on Saturday, October 26th, when they host Carolina University on Senior Day.  Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00pm.
