Altoona, PA – The Regent University Men's Basketball team headed north for a weekend road trip in Pennsylvania. First up was a Friday night match-up with Penn State – Altoona, an NCAA Division III school. After a big win this past Wednesday, the Royals were looking to make it two in a row, but in order to do that, they needed to have a balanced scoring attack.
Regent wasted no time getting on the board at the start of the first half, as Junior Darrin Clark (Suffolk, VA) and Freshman Christian Brown (Chesapeake, VA) combined for five straight points. Sophomore Antoine Brown (Chesapeake, VA) and Junior Vladimir Vibert (West Palm Beach, FL) continued the scoring and, all of the sudden, the Royals held the advantage, 11-3. The Nittany Lions eventually settled down and took their first lead of the game, but Vibert and Freshman Brandon Williams (Windsor, NC) helped push Regent out in front by four points and then Christian Brown drained a three to increase it to seven. Vibert continued with the hot hand and suddenly the Royals were ahead by double-digits. They would stay out front as the teams headed to the locker room, leading PSU-Altoona 36-29.
As the second half began, Vibert converted another basket from behind the three-point line, as Regent would keep the lead all the way to the eight-minute mark. The Nittany Lions would eventually tie the game and put some pressure on the Royals. Unfortunately, that is the momentum they needed as PSU - Altoona jumped out in front and did not relinquish the lead. Regent made a few runs but as the final buzzer sounded, they would fall by a final score of 73-62.
Vibert led all scorers with 24 points, while finishing the game 8-10 from the free throw line. In addition, Williams grabbed a team high seven rebounds (2 offensive and 5 defensive) and Sophomore Brendan Goods (Long Beach, CA) dished out a total of four assists.
The Royals will have a quick turnaround as they will remain in Pennsylvania for an afternoon match-up with Mount Aloysius College on Saturday, November 16th. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
