Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Regent Leaves It All On The Court In South Region Semifinals

Norfolk, VA - For the second straight season, the Regent University Women's Volleyball team faced Carolina University in the NCCAA South Region Tournament.  Tonight's match would give the winner the right to move on to Saturday's Championship against #1 seed Clinton College.  The Bruins and Royals met earlier in the year, with Carolina coming away with the win.  On Saturday, Regent had the opportunity to, once again, play in front of the home fans, giving them a home court advantage.  In fact, it was the largest crowd to ever see the Royals play.  A big thank you goes out to the students who packed the Rowdy Royals section and made their presence known.  While the outcome was not what everyone had hoped for, Regent and the Bruins played a tight match that saw the Royals make two comebacks.  It would go all the way down to the final point in the fourth set for the match to be decided but, even though Regent would fall, they left it all on the court, as they have done all season.

Sophomore Erin Saunders (Danville, VA) and Freshman Alaina Braun-Duin (Richmond, VA) were very active at the net recording 13 and 12 kills respectively, while also finishing the game with a combined 37 digs.  Seniors Makayla Daniels (Chesapeake, VA) and Shaley Wertz (Kansas City, MO), who were playing in their final game in a Royals uniform, combined for a total of 31 assists and fellow Senior Jordan Banister (Chesapeake, VA) recorded three total blocks.  As a team, Regent served up seven aces.

The Royals finish the season with an overall record of 12-10, which is the second most wins in program history.  Regent also recorded a program first with five straight sweeps, while also producing a National Player of the Week.  In addition, they finished the regular season with a National Power Ranking of #23.

The Royals will now focus on the off-season and prepare for their move to the Coast-To-Coast Conference, where they will be able to compete in the conference tournament held in Sana Cruz, CA
