Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Goods Leads Regent at Virginia Wesleyan

Virginia Beach, VA – Game two of today's doubleheader featured the Regent Men's Basketball team traveling down the road to Virginia Wesleyan University.  After defeating a DIII opponent a few weeks ago, the Royals were looking to come out fast and set the tone against today's DIII opponent.  Recently a few players were dealing with injuries, but Regent would have the services of two of their starters, who had missed time this past week.

The Marlins scored the to start the first half, but Freshman Christian Brown (Chesapeake, VA) quickly answered with a driving layup.  However, VWU would jump out to a seven-point lead until Sophomore Brendan Goods (Long Beach, CA) cut into the deficit with a layup of his own.  A three-pointer by Sophomore Antoine Brown (Chesapeake, VA) brought the Royals to within two.  Unfortunately, the Marlins were able to increase the advantage to double digits until Goods hit his second basket of the game.  Junior Josh Vogt (Rochester, NY) came off the bench to help with the scoring and Goods would add a few more but as the teams headed to the locker room, Regent trailed 52-39.

In the second half, two C. Brown free throws began a run for the Royals as they began to chip away at the VWU advantage.  A combined five points from Junior Vladimir Vibert (West Palm Beach, FL) and A. Brown pulled Regent closer and with 13:26 remaining they only trailed 59-51.  A Goods jumper would keep the lead under 10 points, but that is as close as they could get and as the final buzzer sounded, the Royals would fall by a final score of 98-67.

Goods led Regent with 18 points and two steals, while C. Brown finished with 15 points.  In addition, Vibert contributed with 12 points and shot 80% from the free throw line.

The Royals will be back in action on Saturday, November 30th when they host Methodist University in a rematch from last week.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00pm.
