Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Royals Complete Home-And-Home Series At Methodist University

Fayetteville, NC - On Wednesday evening, the Regent University Women's Basketball team traveled to North Carolina to take the court once again against Methodist University. After the quick holiday break, the Royals hoped to steal their first win on the road. This was Regent's second match-up in a row against the Monarchs as the two teams last played each other this past Saturday after Thanksgiving.

The Royals started the game making adjustments from their last outing against Methodist, quickly pressing their opponents into taking tough shots in the paint and forcing them to shoot from beyond the arc. After some quick trips to the free-throw line and good offensive possessions, Regent found themselves down by twelve points, but within reach of the Monarchs after the first quarter.  Senior Courtney Rowley (Lusk, WY) opened up the Royals' scoring in the second quarter with a quick three. With that three pointer, Rowley cements herself as the fourth-ranked three point leader in Regent Women's Basketball History.  Her offensive game has not gone unnoticed for the Royals this season, and her recent efficient games have moved her into the top-three all time category for both assists and rebounds in the Royals' record books.

Throughout the first half, Regent was able to successfully push the ball and draw fouls in the paint, forcing the Monarchs to make defensive adjustments.  Junior Jasmeen Lemons (Houston, TX) was able to draw fouls at a good pace throughout the second quarter, going 3-4 from the line while the Royals pushed to decrease the point differential and keep the game close. Regent found themselves in the bonus with just under a minute to go in the first half with Senior Lyriq Reyes (Bagota, NJ) at the line, who was able to bring the Royals to an even 20 points before the teams headed to the locker rooms.

With the second half underway, Regent faced a deficit but not one they couldn't overcome. The Royals quickly forced Methodist into foul trouble within the first five minutes, and gained extra points at the bonus line. Regent has found success this year with drawing offensive charges, and their pressure in the paint along with their quick hands on the perimeter forced the Monarchs into their lowest scoring quarter of the game. The fourth quarter output helped the Royals complete their second highest scoring game of the year with 41 total points. However, they were unable to bring the game within reach and as the final buzzer sounded, they would fall by a final score of 86-41.

Sophomore Shardae Williams (Fredericksburg, VA) led Regent with 9 points, while Lemons, Rowley and Sophomore Lindora Lewis (Richmond, VA) each finished the game with 7 points a piece.  In addition, Sophomore My'Angel Carter (Toccoa, GA) grabbed a team high 6 rebounds (2 offensive and 4 defensive).

After a hard fought loss, the Royals will put the tires on the road and travel to Roanoke, Virginia on December 10th to face Hollins University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
