Virginia Beach, VA - Saturday was Senior day for the Regent University Women's Basketball team and it would be a day that everyone in attendance would remember for a long time. With just 5.9 seconds remaining in the game, Junior
Layla Turner (Portsmouth, VA) drove to the basket tying the game and was fouled on the play. She would convert the free throw to complete a 4th quarter comeback giving the Royals the win and allowing Seniors
Kaila Murrell (Long Beach, CA) and
Kali Murrell (Long Beach, CA) to go out on top. After losing to Johnson & Wales earlier in the season by 38 points, Regent was able to turn that around and earn the hard fought win, 71-70.
Junior
Jabarria Brown (Paterson, NJ) led the Royals with 18 points, while
Kali Murrell finished with 14 points, hitting two clutch free throws to keep her team close with a few minutes left in the game. In addition, Junior
Nevaeh Ivory (Charlottesville, VA) added 12 points and dished out a team high 6 assists and Turner had 10 points, while leading the team with 6 rebounds. As a team, Regent forced 15 Wildcat turnovers and held them to only 2 three-pointers. The game saw 8 lead changes and the score was tied 8 times, but it was that last score from Turner that counted the most for the Royals.
Regent will be back in action on Tuesday, February 27th as they travel to Winston-Salem, NC to face Carolina University in their last game of the season. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00pm.
