Winston-Salem, NC – The Regent University Men's Basketball team hit the road for their final game of the season, as they faced Carolina University for the second time this year. The Royals would come out strong and play one of their most complete games of the year.
Fellow Freshman Micah Eastman (Virginia Beach, VA) and Marion Brown (Chesapeake, VA) were able to find the basket and propel Regent to an early lead of 10-5. Junior Chaz Moody (Chesapeake, VA) would also get in on the scoring, but the Bruins manufactured a run to turn the score around, grabbing the advantage, 24-20. A layup by Junior Matthew Mealy (Chesapeake, VA) kept the Royals within striking distance, and with 2:45 remaining in the half, the only trailed by three points. An offensive put back by Sophomore Joshua Vogt (Rochester, NY) pulled Regent to within one point, but as the teams headed to the locker room, the Royals trailed 32-29.
The second half saw Regent come out with a purpose and would eventually take the lead after a Brown basket. Carolina tied things back up but a jumper by Senior Mark Nyce (Laurel, DE) gave the Royals the lead again, 35-33. The advantage would increase after Junior Joakim Marie-Joseph (Saint Martin) found Nyce under the basket for the score. Eventually the Bruins were able to tie things up, but Eastman took control of the offense to give Regent their largest lead of the game 43-39. Carolina, once again, was able to pull even and as the buzzer sounded, Regent would fall in a close game by a final of 67-66.
Brown finished with 14 points, while Marie-Joseph pulled down a team high 12 rebounds. In addition, Eastman was 3-4 from the three-point line. The Royals finish their season and will look to the off season to improve on their successes. Thank you to all the fans who have supported the team throughout the season.
