Virginia Beach, VA - On Tuesday night, the Regent University Men's Soccer team, made the short drive up to the Northampton Blvd exit, off I-64 West, to face Virginia Wesleyan University. It would be a match-up of two teams that are moving in the right direction, with the Marlins being picked to finish second this year in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and the Royals off to their best start in program history. The game saw Regent's defense hold strong for most of the game, turning away numerous VWU scoring chances, but in the end the Royals would fall by a final score of 3-0.
Sophomore
Tyler Hambright (Stevens, PA) had the best scoring opportunity for Regent as he got past a diving Marlins' keeper, but the ball was tipped a the last second by a VWU defender. On the defensive side, Senior
Josh Moore (Damascus, MD) and Freshman
Landen Staples (Chesapeake, VA) anchored a unit that held up to a number of runs by the Marlins. In addition, Sophomore Goalie
Conner Henriques (Spotsylvania, VA) recorded five saves, while also punching the ball out on a number of corner kicks.
The Royals will be back in action on Wednesday, September 18th when they travel to North Carolina to face their second ODAC opponent in a row, Guilford College. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00pm.
