Fredericksburg, VA – With just one week remaining in the regular season, the Regent University Women's Soccer team made a Sunday appearance at the University of Mary Washington, looking to gain more conference play experience as they prepare for the upcoming Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference tournament. The Royals came in knowing they were facing one of the best teams in the conference, but their focus would be to get better in all facets of play. Despite the loss, Regent would come away knowing that there is no quit in their team, and the bond they have formed will carry them into their final regular season match-ups.
Junior Rhyan Primmer (Stafford, VA) and Sophomore Serenity Cortez (Fresno, CA) have been mentioned throughout the season for their strong defensive play. Their leadership was on display again as the Royals faced one of the best attacks they have seen all year. In addition, Freshman Lianne Edmiston (Dallas, OR) and Senior Marissa Crawley (Charlotte, NC) also helped keep the pressure at bay. As the game went on, Junior Sierra Smullen (Snow Hill, MD) and Freshman Sarah Brownell (Virginia Beach, VA) tried push their possessions forward to get Junior Anna Teague (Salisbury, NC) and Sophomore Faith Perez (Bakersfield, CA) scoring chances. While they were unable to get the ball past the Mary Washington keeper, Regent played an inspired second half as the defense shut down the Eagles allowing Junior Kristen Miller (Peoria, AZ) to grab a total of 13 saves.
The Royals will be back in action on Wednesday, October 22nd when they travel to Southern Virginia University. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
