Virginia Beach, VA - The Regent University Women's Basketball team hosted North Carolina Wesleyan University Wednesday evening in the first game of a doubleheader. The Royals performance was highlighted by the Freshman, who turned in a strong performance from the free throw line but in the end, they would fall by a final score of 90-52.
Freshman Kennedy Shipman (Virginia Beach, VA) led Regent with a team-high 17 points, including an 11-for-12 performance from the free-throw line. Her play provided the offensive spark Regent needed in key stretches. Fellow Freshman Amara Groth (Chesapeake, VA) finished with 8 points and 3 steals, while Junior My'Angel Carter (Toccoa, GA) continued her all-around impact, finishing with 7 points and 9 rebounds. Junior Zipporah Johnson (Waterford, MI) added 7 points and 2 assists, and Freshman Eliza Entzminger (Winterville, NC) made her presence felt defensively, recording 3 blocks to go along with her 7 rebounds in one of her most complete performances this season.
Collectively, the Royals matched the Battling Bishops' physicality early, taking a 15–11 lead at the end of the first quarter after clutch baskets from Shipman and Groth. Regent's defensive rotations and rebounding energy kept the game close through much of the first half. As a team, the Royals finished 20-of-28 from the free throw line and grabbed a total of 35 rebounds.
Regent will be back in action Tuesday, December 16th when they travel to the University of Lynchburg. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00pm.
