Salisbury, MD – The Regent University Men's Basketball team faced an uphill battle on Saturday afternoon against future Conference foe Salisbury University. A number of key players for the Royals did not make the trip due to illness, which included two starters. However, they would not use that as an excuse, and they took the court with a sense of determination against Seagulls.
Regent fell behind early in the first half, until Sophomore Micah Eastman (Virginia Beach, VA) found the basket for their first points of the game. Junior Anthony Chenault (Portsmouth, VA) followed that with two free throws, while Junior Darrin Clark (Suffolk, VA) added a driving layup. A few possessions later Eastman would score five straight points and then Freshman JT May (Jasonville, IN) drove to the basket for a score. Eastman finished the half with another basket and as the teams headed to the locker rooms for halftime, the Royals trailed 51-16.
The second half began with two Clark layups, followed by a three-pointer from Junior Maxamus Simms (Atlanta, GA). After a Sophomore Logan McElveen (Virginia Beach, VA) jumper, Simms would drain another three-pointer and then Sophomore Antoine Brown (Chesapeake, VA) drove to the basket for two. Brown and Clark proceeded to find the basket, as did Eastman and McElveen, but as the final buzzer sounded, Regent would fall by a final score of 109-50.
Clark finished the game with 13 points, while Eastman added 11 points. In addition, Junior Joshua Vogt (Rochester, NY) grabbed a team high 7 rebounds.
The Royals will be back in action on Wednesday, February 5th when they travel to North Carolina to face Mid-Atlantic Christian University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
