Toccoa, GA – It was a homecoming for Sophomore My'Angel Carter (Toccoa, GA) on Friday night, as the Regent University Women's Basketball team opened a weekend road trip in her hometown.  With her family in attendance, the Royals were looking to send them home happy as they faced fellow NCCAA institution Toccoa Falls College.  The Valentines Day game would be the first time the two teams have ever faced each other.

Senior Lyriq Reyes (Bogota, NJ) opened the first quarter with a defensive steal, but the Screaming Eagles eventually were able to score first.  Carter answered with a short jumper, followed by a Sophomore Shardae Williams (Fredericksburg, VA) transition layup.  Toccoa Falls began to press Regent, but they were able to handle it and move the ball up the court.  Despite a balanced effort, a couple of Screaming Eagles' baskets increased their lead to nine points.  Out of a timeout, Carter grabbed an offensive rebound and powered back up for the score and on the next possession she would take a pass from Senior Courtney Rowley (Lusk, WY) in the paint for another basket.  As time was winding down, Rowley used the baseline for a driving score and as the quarter ended the Royals trailed 23-10.

The second quarter began with a Toccoa Falls three-pointer, but Rowley would answer with two free throws.  A few possessions later, Reyes found the basket off a drive from the wing and that was followed by a Carter offensive putback and then a short jumper from Rowley.  After a Screaming Eagles timeout, Junior Jasmeen Lemons (Houston, TX) would convert an old fashion three-point play to trim the deficit to eight points and then Williams took a pass underneath the basket for the score.   Two more Rowley free throws, along with a layup by Carter, trimmed the lead and after a layup by Lemons Regent would go into the half trailing 37-31.

Williams started the third quarter with a defensive stop and a few plays later, Carter drove to the basket for a layup.  A three-pointer from Lemons pulled the Royals two within three-points and then on the defensive end, Reyes was able to draw an offensive foul.  Eventually, Toccoa Falls would increase their advantage back up to ten points, forcing Coach Donte Minter to call a timeout.  Two points from Rowley pulled Regent to within eight points and then Carter and Senior Oghosasse Osadiaye (Marion, MI) would attack the basket and as the quarter came to an end, the Royals only trailed 50-41.

A three-pointer by the Screaming Eagles opened up the fourth quarter and eventually Regent found themselves trailing 57-41. A give and go by Rowley and Carter stopped the run and then Rowley would drive in for a short jumper for another score. Lemons would keep it going after being fouled and converting the two free throws, and then Williams found the basket on a turnaround jumper in the paint.  However, as the final buzzer sounded the Royals would fall be a final score of 70-59.

Carter led Regent with 20 points, while Rowley finished with 18 points.  In addition, Lemons added 10 points.

The Royals will be back in action Saturday, February 15th as they travel to North Carolina to face Warren Wilson College.
