Box Score Winston-Salem, NC – On Saturday, the Regent University Men's Basketball team made one last road trip for a match-up with Carolina University. This would be the final game of the 2024-2025 season and the Royals were hoping to split the season series. The two teams met earlier in the season in Virginia Beach, with the Bruins taking home the win.
Carolina would score to begin the first half, but Junior Damien Walters, Jr. (Matthews, VA) answered with a three-pointer from the top of the key. However, after a few minutes the Bruins were able to pull out in front 13-3. Another Walters three stopped the run but, once again, Carolina answered. Junior Joshua Vogt (Rochester, NY) came off the bench to hit a short jumper and then Walters would cut to the basket for another score. A three and a short jumper by Junior Darrin Clark (Suffolk, VA) continued to put Regent on the board but they would find themselves down 34-16. A few minutes later Clark found Sophomore Micah Eastman (Virginia Beach, VA) at the top of the key for a three-pointer and then Junior Maxamus Simms (Atlanta, GA) found points at the free throw line. Sophomore DJ Dillon (Franklin, VA) drove in for a short jumper and then Sophomore Antoine Brown (Chesapeake, VA) stepped to the line to convert two free throws. A floater by Clark and a three-pointer by Freshman Brandon Williams (Windsor, NC) cut into the deficit but as the teams headed to the locker rooms for the half, the Royals trailed 58-39.
Dillon opened the second half scoring for Regent after grabbing a pass from Eastman for a jump shot. On the next possession, Eastman, this time, found Clark for a three-pointer and that was followed by two free throws and then a layup by Brown. Regent continued the scoring with a three from Williams, another layup by Brown and an old-fashioned three-point play by Clark. A few minutes later, Clark would cut the lead to single digits with a made layup, but the Bruins answered. However, the Royals would remain in striking distance after a three-point play by Vogt, and another three from Clark. A three by Walters, combined with a layup from Clark helped Regent get closer but it would not be enough as the Royals would fall by a final score 114-100.
Clark finished with 37 points, once again breaking his own program single-game scoring record, while Williams had a season high 19 points. Walters finished with his season-high 17 points and Brown added 9 points. Eastman led the team on the boards with 7 rebounds.
Regent's season is now over, and the Royals would like to thank everyone for all their support. They will prepare for the offseason, as they turn their focus to recruiting and next year's first season in the Coast-to-Coast Conference.
