Norfolk, VA – While it was sunny and warm outside, that did not prevent the Regent faithful from packing the gym on Saturday afternoon to cheer on the Royals. It was Senior Day for the Regent University Men's Volleyball team as they honored Graduate Student Aaron Campbell (Virginia Beach, VA) prior to the match against Randolph College. It was a day that saw the Royals win the first two sets (25-22 and 28-26), but they eventually would fall in a heart breaker, by a final score of 3-2.
Sophomore Ariel Downer (Spring Lake, NC) set a single-game school record recording 23 digs, while Campbell finished with a double-double in his final home game with 21 kills, 14 digs, 4 blocks and 2 service aces. In addition, Graduate Student Colby Yawn (Chesapeake, VA) recorded another triple double with 16 kills, 21 assists and 15 digs and was followed by Junior Aubrey Flora (Cheasapeake, VA) who finished with 18 assists.
Regent will be back in action on Tuesday, April 1st when they travel to Saint Andrews University. First Serve is scheduled for 6:00pm.
Aaron Campbell Senior Day Tribute
Today we honor Graduate Student Aaron Campbell, a Graduate Student majoring in Education, is playing in his last home game and will go down as one of the best to ever wear a Regent University Men's Volleyball Uniform. While the program is only in its first year, Campbell, who is from Virginia Beach, VA, is a two-time NCCAA National Player of the Week and currently holds numerous school records. His 22 kills against Saint Andrews are a school record and he also set the school record for most kills in a tri-match weekend with 32. In just 17 games, Aaron has amassed 222 Kills, 20 Service Aces, 148 Digs, 7 Blocks and 259 Points. In addition, Aaron is currently ranked Nationally #2 in Total Points, #3 in Kills/Set and #8 in Digs/Set. Aaron's commitment to Regent Athletics goes beyond just his accolades on the Court, as he also serves as a Volunteer Assistant Coach for the Women's Volleyball program and has helped the development of a Region Player of the Year, numerous All-Region selections and the Royals berth in the 2023 National Championships. When asked about Aaron, Coach KT said "Aaron has been a pioneer for Regent Men's Volleyball. He has led our men's team fearlessly both on and off the court. Aaron earned the first ever NATIONAL recognition within the program and has set countless records that will not easily be broken. His leadership, work ethic and light-hearted personality will be some of the things we miss the most next season. Aaron thought he missed his opportunity to play college volleyball, but we are so grateful the Lord's timing delayed Aaron's time to shine in the college world until Regent had a program. We would not have been able to accomplish everything we have this season without him. Thank you, Aaron, for everything you have done for this program. You will be greatly missed".
