Virginia Beach, VA – It was a short drive down I-64 on Wednesday night for the Regent University Women's Volleyball team as they traveled to Virginia Wesleyan University for a match-up with the #24 nationally ranked Marlins. After cruising through the weekend with three straight wins, the Royals would face their toughest competition so far this season, right in their own backyard.
Even though this was the first time Regent had ever faced a nationally ranked team in volleyball, the Royals showed that even as a young DIII program, they can play at a high level. Despite falling to Virginia Wesleyan, Junior Erin Saunders (Danville, VA) shined on the big stage as she finished with 10 kills, 7 digs and 2 service aces, while Freshman Emma Kristiansen (Sparta, NJ) added 5 kills. In addition, the reigning Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Sophomore Madison Hardiman (Memphis, TN), finished with 16 digs and Freshman Rylee Stewart (Newport News, VA) dished out 9 assists.
Regent will be back in action on Saturday, September 13th when they travel to Maryland for a tri-match with Saint Mary's College of Maryland and Eastern Mennonite University. First serve is scheduled for 12:00pm.
