Virginia Beach, VA – This year there are a number of new faces on the roster for the Regent University Women's Basketball program as the Royals begin their first season as a provisional member of the NCAA and as members of the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference. Head Coach Donte Minter, who is entering his second season at the helm of the program, has rebuilt the team and upgraded every position, which will help Regent as they embark on their first full Division III slate.
The Royals return three from last year's team, including All-South First Team selection, Junior My'Angel Carter (Toccoa, GA) who averaged 18.5 points/game, while also setting the program's single game rebounding record and double-double record last season. In addition, Sophomore Shardae Williams (Fredericksburg, VA), returns to bring experience under the basket and leadership on the court. In addition, Sophomore Kaitlyn Russell (Fredericksburg, VA), returns with a strong knowledge of Coach Minter's system.
The recruiting season paid off for Coach Minter as a number of new faces will wear the Regent uniform this season. Freshmen Eva Giannini (Avon, CT) and Kennedy Shipman (Virginia Beach, VA) are two solid shooters who will set the tone for the offense, while Voorhees University transfer Junior C'Niyah Turner (Fredericksburg, VA), Freshman Eliza Entzminger (Winterville, NC), Freshman Tyler Marie Henry (Virginia Beach, VA) and Freshman Mikaylah Telfer (Chesapeake, VA) will bring size to the front court. In addition, Freshmen Amara Groth (Chesapeake, VA) and Zipporah Johnson (Waterford, MI) will provide additional depth at the guard position.
This year's schedule includes nine homes games and seven conference match-ups. The Royals will open the season November 8th on the road at Eastern Mennonite University.
