Sweet Briar, VA – On Wednesday night the Regent University Women's Soccer team traveled to the mountains of Virginia to face ODAC member Sweet Briar College.  The game was the first of five straight on the road for the Royals and it represented an opportunity to get it started on a positive note.  The was the third straight year the two teams had met on the field and the first as DIII opponents.   

The first half saw the Vixens test Junior Goalkeeper Kristen Miller (Peoria, AZ), but she turned away any scoring opportunities Sweet Briar had.  That success turned into a chance for Regent and at the 10:56 mark Senior Marissa Crawley (Charlotte, NC) was able to streak down the center of the field and connect on a shot past the goalie to give the Royals the early lead, 1-0.  Junior Anna Teague (Salisbury, NC) and Freshman Sarah Brownell (Virginia Beach, VA) continued to get shots off, but as the teams headed into the half the score would remain the same.  Despite creating a number of scoring opportunities in the second half, Regent was unable to put any more points on the board.  Unfortunately, the Vixens would find the goal two more times as the Royals fell by a final score of 3-1. 

Crawley finished the game with 1 goal and 3 shots, while Brownell had a team high 7 shots.  In addition, Miller recorded 13 saves, which was four behind her single game save record.  As a team, Regent out shot Sweet Briar 24-23 and attempted 4 corner kicks. 

The Royals will continue their road trip on Saturday, September 6th when they travel to Staunton, VA to face Mary Baldwin University.  Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00pm.
