Staunton, VA – On Saturday, the Regent University Women's Soccer team continued their road trip as they traveled to Mary Baldwin University for an early afternoon match-up. It would be a game that saw the Royals play their best first half of the young season and one that provided them with some opportunities to improve.
In the first half, Junior Sierra Smullen (Snow Hill, MD) put pressure on the Fighting Squirrels defense and was able send a shot towards the center of the goal, but Mary Baldwin would turn it away. Another chance presented itself right before halftime when Sophomore Faith Perez (Bakersfield, CA) fired a shot to the bottom right corner, but the Mary Baldwin keeper was just able to make the save. Despite that, the score would remain tied at the end of the first 45 minutes. Unfortunately, the Fighting Squirrels would capitalize on their scoring chances in the second half, as Regent would fall by a final score of 4-0.
Junior Goalkeeper Kristen Miller (Peoria, AZ) finished the game with 8 saves, while as a team the Royals attempted 3 corner kicks.
Regent will continue their road trip as they travel to Decatur, GA for a two-game swing against Wesleyan College and Agnes Scott College on September 10th and 11th. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00pm on both days.
