Virginia Beach, VA - After celebrating Christmas with their families, the Regent University Men's Basketball team was back at work as they hosted Penn State-Altoona in their first game of the new year. Saturday was an opportunity for the Royals to get one more tune-up before they begin Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference play, as the Nitnany Lions brought a quick, athletic team to the 757 for the second year in a row. As it has been all season, the gym was packed and loud as both teams came out trying to establish their offenses. Regent would go up early but eventually they had to fight their way back. However, in the end the Royals would fall by a final score of 92-79.
Five Regent players finished the game in double figures with Junior Dorian Tema (Frederick, MD) leading the way with 17 points to go along with 7 rebounds, while stepping up on the defensive end of the court recording 2 blocks and 2 steals. Senior Darrin Clark (Suffolk, VA) added 16 points and 4 assists as he settled into the two spot most of the game and newcomer, Sophomore Chauncey Gilliam (Chesapeake, VA), who saw his first action of the year, was 5 for 7 from the field, finishing with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks. In addition, Senior Brendan Goods (Melbourne, FL) was back in the lineup and provided leadership at the point guard position contributing 12 points and 4 assists, while Junior Antoine Brown (Chesapeake, VA) turned in a strong effort with 10 points as he was able to lock in on defense.
The Royals will be back in action on Saturday, January 10th when they travel to Maryland to face conference foe Salisbury University. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.Â
