Salisbury, MD – The final weekend of the regular season saw the Regent University Women's Basketball team travel up the Eastern Shore to face fellow Conference member at Salisbury University. The Royals will make a return trip to the same location next week for the Coast-To-Coast Conference Tournament, but they had unfinished business against the Seagulls.
Freshman Kennedy Shipman (Virginia Beach, VA) led the charge scoring a team-high 16 points on 7-of-24 shooting, while dishing out 6 assists and grabbing 7 rebounds. In addition, fellow Mikaylah Telfer (Chesapeake, VA) was a force inside, with 8 points and a game-high 14 rebounds (7 offensive), including crucial put backs that kept possessions alive. Her effort on the boards helped Regent dominate the glass 40-35 overall, turning second-chance opportunities into points. Junior Shardae Williams (Fredericksburg, VA) added 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including a three-pointer.
In the third quarter, the Royals outscored Salisbury 20-26, as Freshman Amara Groth (Chesapeake, VA) drained a key three-pointer and finished with 7 points, while Freshman Eliza Entzminger (Winterville, NC) contributed 6 points and 5 rebounds and Sophomore Kaitlyn Russell (Fredericksburg, VA) added 4 points and 3 rebounds in the loss 90-52.
Regent will now turn its focus to the Conference Tournament as they head back to Salisbury to compete in the first round. Stay tuned for updated dates and times.
