Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Regent And Johnson & Wales University Play For The First Time As Conference Foes

Charlotte, NC – Junior Dorian Tema (Frederick, MD) almost eclipsed his career high, scoring 19 points to go along with 9 rebounds and 2 steals, while Senior Brendan Goods (Melbourne, FL) chipped in with 13 points Saturday afternoon as the Regent University Men's Basketball team visited Johnson & Wales University.  The was the first time this season the two Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference foes have faced each other on the hardwood and they both were positioning themselves for a trip to the Conference Tournament in California.

Goods and Sophomore Chauncey Gilliam (Chesapeake, VA) gave Regent the early lead to start the first half with two quick layups.  A score by Freshman Grant Worley (Chesapeake, VA), followed by Gilliam's second layup kept the Royals out in front until the Wildcats went on a run to eventually take a nine-point advantage.  However, Tema stopped the run with four straight points and then Senior Joshua Vogt (Rochester, NY) came off the bench to drain a three-pointer, which was followed by a Worley two hand dunk.  However, as the teams headed to the locker rooms, Regent would trail, despite a half court three by Goods, 47-34.

The second half began with back-to-back layups by Tema and those were followed by a jumper from Goods.  JWU was able to increase their lead to 20 points until Goods connected on another jumper and then followed up with a layup.  A few possessions later Freshmen Joshua Hanna (Chesterfield, VA) and Jaxson Delane (Colonial Beach, VA) converted driving layups to keep the scoring going and that was followed by a jumper from Freshman Carmelo Martinez (San Antonio, TX).  Unfortunately, they could not cut into the deficit, and the Royals would fall by a final score of 99-69.

Regent will travel two hours to Asheville tonight and will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, February 8th when they face another conference foe Warren Wilson College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00pm.
