Virginia Beach, VA - On a warm Wednesday Night, the Regent University Baseball team delivered a dominating offensive performance, combined with solid pitching, as they cruised to a win over Virginia Peninsula Community College, 13-3. The Royals jumped out early and never looked back, plating runs in every inning except the fifth and sixth while pounding out 14 hits. The night featured multi-hit games from several key contributors and timely hitting with runners in scoring position.
Freshman Nathan Vaughan (Mechanicsville, VA) set the tone at the top of the order, going 2-for-3 with a double, a hit-by-pitch, a walk, two stolen bases, and an RBI while scoring three times. Freshman Jordan Hunt (Virginia Beach, VA) added three hits in five at-bats, driving in one run and scoring twice, while Junior Jayden Alvarez (Newport News, VA) chipped in two hits and three RBIs, including key at-bats with runners on base. Freshman Dylan Oblepias (Katy, TX) went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a sacrifice fly, and Freshman Keegan Hager (North Chesterfield, VA) provided a clutch two-RBI double in the fourth inning.
Regent's offense exploded for five runs in the fourth inning alone, highlighted by Alvarez's RBI single, Oblepias' sacrifice fly, and Hager's two-run double. They would add four more in the seventh, including a pair of runs on an error and another RBI single from Alvarez, before tacking on one final run in the eighth.
On the mound, Freshman Benjamin Krause (Virginia Beach, VA) went 4.2 innings, allowing just three runs on four hits while striking out four to earn the win. Junior Wyatt Helsel (Poquoson, VA), Freshman Caleb Wood (Glen Allen, VA) and Junior Wilson Estep (Williamsburg, VA) came out of the bullpen to finish things off, over the final 3.1 innings. As a group, the pitchers struck out eight batters and allowed just five hits.
The Royals will be back in action on Friday, April 3rd when they travel to Hampton to face The Apprentice School in a doubleheader at Historic War Memorial Stadium. First pitch is at 2:00pm.
