Virginia Beach, VA - The Regent University Women's Soccer team opened its 2026 season Tuesday evening with a crosstown match-up against Batten University. Despite falling 9-0, the Royals showed toughness throughout the 90-minute contest, which allowed numerous freshmen to see their first collegiate action.
Regent generated its best offensive opportunity of the opening half in the 20th minute when Sophomore Camryn Robinson (Jacksonville, FL) who entered the match as a substitute, put a shot on frame that forced the Marlins' goalkeeper to make the save. The Royals continued to battle defensively after halftime as the defense held Batten scoreless for more than 26 minutes.
In goal, Senior Kristen Miller (Peoria, AZ) faced pressure throughout the evening and finished with five saves while playing all 90 minutes.
Several Royals also logged significant minutes in the season opener. Sophomore Kylie Gaines (Ramsuer, NC), Senior Sierra Smullen (Snow Hill, MD), Junior Serenity Cortez (Fresno, CA), Junior Faith Perez (Bakersfield, CA), Freshman Lauren Pond (Midlothian, VA), Freshman Finley Hunter (Virginia Beach, VA) and Freshman Audrey Bailey (Powhatan, VA) each played the full 90 minutes as Regent worked through its opening test of the new campaign.
The Royals will be back in action on Saturday, September 5th when they host Sweet Briar College in their home opener. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00pm
