Elizabeth City, NC - For the 11th straight time, the Regent University Women's Volleyball Team defeated Mid-Atlantic Christian University in what has become the Border Game between the two schools. After a long layoff, the Royals were able to put together a strong all-around performance sweeping the Mustangs in straight sets 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-13). The win helped Regent move to 4-2 on the season as they controlled the match from start to finish. The Royals finished with 31 kills, 27 assists, 56 digs and nine service aces.
Regent had to battle early in the opening set as the two teams traded momentum and after the score was tied at 15, the Royals began to create separation as Freshman Mia Wilson (Chesterfield, VA) helped Regent take the lead. A few points later, fellow Sophomores Keira Anderson (Leland, NC) and Emma Kristiansen (Sparta, NJ) converted kills to help the Royals close out the set on a strong run, 25-18.
Regent fell behind in the second set 20-16, until Freshman Sarah Cutler (Hampstead, NC) helped spark the comeback from the service line as the Royals scored four consecutive points to even the set at 20. After MACU briefly regained the advantage, Wilson provided a block to tie the score at 21 before Anderson delivered a kill that put Regent in front. The Royals scored the final five points, with Wilson finishing the comeback with a kill for the set, 25-21.
Regent carried that momentum into the third set and quickly took command. With the set tied 1-1, the Royals rattled off five straight points behind Cutler's serve to build a 6-1 advantage. Regent continued to pull away, extending its lead to 15-5 before eventually completing the sweep, 25-13.
