Lynchburg, VA – It was a rematch from last month's NC Wesleyan Invitational Final, as the Regent University Women's Volleyball team traveled west Wednesday to once again face Randolph College. The two programs have produced tightly contested matches over the years and tonight would be no different as the Royals and Wildcats matched each other point-for-point.
After dropping the first two sets 25-15 and 25-23, Regent responded and fought back in the third. The set went back-and-forth and featured five ties, but the Royals eventually pulled away for a 25-22 victory to extend the match as Freshman Claire Keefer (Winchester, VA) delivered the clinching kill. Regent continued to challenge Randolph in the fourth, keeping the match close. The Royals pulled even at 14-14 before the Wildcats used a short run to regain the advantage. Regent continued to battle, getting back within one-point at 22-21, but they would eventually fall in the set and match 3-1 (25-21).
Keefer led the offensive effort with 14 kills, while Senior Reagan Holestin (Virginia Beach, VA) added seven kills and 10 digs. Sophomore Rylee Stewart (Newport News, VA) directed the offense with 21 assists while also contributing 10 digs, giving her a double-double. In addition, Sophomore Keira Anderson (Leland, NC) anchored the back row with a team-high 15 digs.
At the net, the Royals produced six total blocks, with Freshman Mia Wilson (Chesterfield, VA) leading the way with four. Regent finished the night with 30 kills, 51 digs and three service aces.
The Royals will be back in action when they travel to Georgia for a tri-match with Agnes Scott College and Covenant College. First serves are set for 1:00pm and 3:00pm.
