Raleigh, NC - For the second time this week, the Regent University Men's Soccer team found itself back in the Tarheel State, with a Saturday trip to the Capital City for a match-up with William Peace University. The Royals put together a strong defensive opening half, keeping the Pacers off the scoreboard for the opening 45 minutes, but would eventually fall by a final score of 2-0.Â
Senior Connor Henriques (Spotsylvania, VA) turned in another strong performance in the net, finishing the afternoon with seven saves. Five of those stops came during the first half as the Regent defense held William Peace scoreless despite facing 11 shots. The Royals created opportunities of their own during the opening 45 minute as Freshman David Gillespie (Odessa, FL) recorded both of Regent's first-half shots, including an attempt in the 17th minute. In addition, in the second half, Freshman Jack Houseknecht (Yorktown, VA) registered a shot in the 81st minute, while Freshman John Adams (Chesapeake, VA) followed with an attempt in the 86th minute that led into the Royals' third corner kick of the afternoon.
Regent finished with eight shots, six of which came in the second half and also earned three corner kicks, while Henriques' seven saves helped keep the Royals within striking distance throughout the afternoon.
Regent will be back in action on Saturday, September 30th when they head up I-95 to face Marymount University. Kick-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
