Sam is originally from Oak Park, IL, and recently moved to the Virginia Beach area with his wife. He is a graduate of Wartburg College, where he studied psychology and was the goalkeeper for the Knights soccer team. After graduating, he went on to the Beeson Divinity School at Samford University, where he received his Masters of Divinity.

After college Coach, Hutchins found a job as a staff member at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN. During his time in Tennessee, he took on his first coaching job with a local high school as the goalkeepers’ coach. In his spare time, Sam focused on improving his coaching skills and received certifications in Goalkeeping Level 1, Defending Principles of Play, Sports Psychology, and Individual Mental Skills from United Soccer Coaches.

Coach Sam says his time as a student-athlete at Wartburg College was profoundly affected by his teammates, peers, and mentors. It was this experience that drew him to Regent University, saying coaching here is “an opportunity to help cultivate an environment where student-athletes can be both encouraged and challenged spiritually, mentally, relationally, and physically.”
