The Regent Royal's women's soccer team lost 1 to 0 in their season opener against West Virginia University Tech on Saturday, August 28th. The match proved to be a defensive battle, with the game's only goal coming early in the first half by WVU Tech's Ana Gay Mesa.
Royal Standouts
 Junior Kelsey Goodson's tough and physical defensive play was key in limiting the Golden Bears' scoring attack throughout the game. Graduate student Marelly Balentina had a strong debut in her first start as goalkeeper. She allowed only one goal while recording 15 saves.
Golden Bear Standouts
Freshman Ana Gay Mesa led the WVU Tech offense taking five shots and finishing with one goal. Goalie Jenna Miller recorded a shutout while making eight saves.
The Regent Royal's woman's soccer team moves to 0-1 on the season and will host Patrick Henry College on September 3rd for their next matchup.
