Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Hat-trick from Charles leads a dominant offensive effort in win over Gallaudet, 8-0

Washington, DC – The Regent University Women's Soccer team traveled north up I-95 for an afternoon matchup with Division III member Gallaudet University. It would be the second game this year that the Royals offense dominated from start to finish, as they scored both early and fast.

Regent wasted no time getting on the board as Freshman Ayden Malloy (Laconia, NH) took a pass from Freshman Laraine Sims (Brier, WA), 29 seconds into the game, for the early lead and then Sophomore Avery Bravo (Victorville, CA) followed that up to help her team go ahead by two goals in the first minute. With a little over 18 minutes remaining in the half, Freshman Sierra Smullen (Snow Hill, NC) grabbed a rebound off the keeper, where Freshman Olivia Charles (Barboursville, WV) was accredited with the assist, and found the back of the net to increase the lead to 3-0.

Just as they did to start the game, the Royals scored twice in the first minute of the second half, with Charles finding Senior Jocelynne Lake (Virginia Beach, VA) for the score and that was immediately followed by Charles scoring the fifth goal of the game, after receiving a pass from Smullen. The duo would do it again a few minutes later as Regent began to take full control of the game. Eventually, Charles earned hat-trick, on a corner kick from Sims, to push the advantage to 7-0. A few minutes before the final whistle, Junior Maddie Joiner (Colonial Heights, VA) scored the final goal of the game to give the Royals the win by a final score of 8-0.

Charles had her best game of the season finishing with 8 shots, 7 shots on goal, 3 goals and 3 assists. In addition, Smullen recorded 4 shots, 4 shots on goal, a goal and 2 assists. Regent will be back in action on Saturday, October 28th when they host Patrick Henry College on Senior Night at Norfolk Christian. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00pm.
