Norfolk, VA – The Regent University Volleyball team returned back home to the friendly confines of their home court at Norfolk Christian and welcomed in one of the best teams in the NCCAA, Carolina University on Saturday afternoon. The game would test the young Royals, who themselves were ranked in the top 10 a few weeks ago. While the outcome was not what Regent had hoped for, they proved that they could play with anyone in the nation, giving the Bruins a tough and exciting match.
The first set saw the Royals fall by a score of 25-14, but in the second set they found their footing, but would come up short, 25-22. However, that did not deter Regent as they played together to keep the game alive, winning the third set by a close margin, 25-23. They fell behind early in the fourth set but would make a strong comeback to pull within a few points of the Bruins. In the end, though, the Royals could not extend the match and fell by a final score of 3-1.
Regent was led by Sophomore Nicole Walston (Wake Forest, NC) who finished the game with 15 kills and 4 service aces, while Junior Jordan Banister (Chesapeake, VA) recorded 5 blocks. In addition, Freshman Ella Simone (El Paso) dished out 27 assists and Erin Saunders (Danville, VA) had 11 digs.
The Royals will return to action on Friday, October 20th when they host a tri-match with Trinity Washington University and Christendom College at the Kroc Center. First serve is scheduled for 2:00pm.
