Norfolk, VA – On Saturday evening, prior to their game against Mid-Atlantic Christian University, the Regent University Men's Soccer team honored their two departing Seniors Alex McCollum (Greensboro, NC) and Cameron Laubach (Millville, PA). Both have played a pivotal role in the growth of the Royals program and their team wanted to send them out with a win. It would not be easy though, as the Mustangs, who had just played in their conference championship game, were ready to put up a fight.
The first half saw Regent create numerous scoring chances, but MACU was able to tighten up on defense. However, in the 36th minute, the Royals were finally able to break through when Laubach crossed a pass to Sophomore John Paul Mancilla Campos (Kannapolis, MD), who directed into that net. That was immediately followed by a Laubach goal of his own and at halftime, Regent would have the lead, 2-0. In the second half, the Royals fought off an energized Mustangs offense and turned that into opportunities, which Laubach again took advantage of, finding the back of the net at the 75th minute and that is how the game would end with a Senior Day win, 3-0.
This is not the final game of the season as the Royals will return to action on Tuesday, October 31st when they travel to Front Royal, VA to face Christendom College. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00pm.
