Bridgewater, VA – The Regent University Women's Volleyball team hit the road again for a Saturday afternoon tri-match with NCAA Division III and ODAC members, Bridgewater College and Randolph College. The afternoon would prove to be some of the toughest competition the Royals have faced all season, as they would have to battle strong with both teams.
Game One
Regent fell behind early in the first set 15-8, forcing Coach KT to call a time out to settle her team down. It proved to be beneficial as the Royals scored the next three out of four points, and eventually pulled to within 19-17. However, the Wildcats would hold on to win the set, 25-22. The second set was also won by Randolph 25-19. In the third set, Regent fell behind 11-7, but showcased their blocking skills to stay close. Unfortunately, it would not be enough as they fell in the overall match by a final score of 3-0.
Sophomore Nicole Walston (Wake Forest, NC) led the Royals with 15 kills, while Freshman Ella Simone (El Paso, TX) finished with 10 digs. In addition, Junior Shaley Wertz (Kansas City, MO) dished out 13 assists.
Game Two
The Eagles started out fast and were able to take the first set 25-13. Regent pushed Bridgewater in the second set, but they could not close the gap and fell 25-17. Even down two sets, the Royals continued to play and set things up for their offense. They were able to cut the deficit to six points but ultimately the Eagles finished off the set and Regent would fall in the match 3-0.
Walston and Junior Jordan Banister (Chesapeake, VA) finished the match with 7 kills each, while Banister also recorded 3 service aces. Simone had another solid performance on the day as she led the team with 17 assists.
The Royals will be back in action Saturday, October 14th when they host Carolina University at Norfolk Christian. First serve is scheduled for 2:00pm.
