Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Regent falls on the road to Johnson & Wales

Charlotte, NC – After a hard-fought win to open the season this past weekend, the Regent University Women's Basketball team boarded the vans for a two-game road trip. Their first stop was a match-up with Johnson & Wales University on Tuesday evening. The Royals were looking to match their intensity from the other night in order to come away with the win. However, it would not be easy as the Wildcats wanted to take advantage of the fact that they were playing at home.

JWU got on the board first with a three pointer from the top of the key, however five points from Junior Jabarria Brown (Paterson, NJ) pulled Regent to within one point, 6-5. Eventually the Wildcats would hold the lead 11-7, but Graduate Student Brooke Glisson (Virginia Beach, VA) converted a free throw to trim into the advantage and as the first quarter ended the Royals trailed 15-10. Unfortunately, the second quarter saw JWU make a run and as the two teams headed to the locker room, the Royals trailed at the half, 35-14. The third and fourth quarters were not what Regent had hoped for, as they were not able to make a comeback, to suffer their first loss of the season, 78-40.

Regent was led by Junior Desiree Cross (Woodbridge, VA) and Freshman Zandie Smith (Cayman Islands) who scored 9 points each. In addition, Glisson pulled down six total rebounds in the game. The Royals will be back in action tomorrow as they complete their two-game road trip against NCAA Division III and USA South member Pfeiffer University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00pm.
