Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Royals play strong at Pfeiffer University

Misenheimer, NC – The Regent University Women's Basketball team completed their two-game road trip in western North Carolina on Wednesday evening as they faced NCAA Division III and USA South member Pfeiffer University. The Royals were looking to bounce back from a tough loss on Tuesday night, but they would face an experienced Falcons team who was opening their season.

Junior Jabarria Brown (Paterson, NJ) and Graduate Student Brooke Glisson (Virginia Beach, VA) helped Regent jump out to a quick lead, 6-0. However, Pfeiffer would make a comeback and eventually grab the advantage, 12-11. That did not last long, as Brown converted a three-point play to end the first quarter with the Royals out in front 14-12. A three-pointer by Senior Kali Murrell (Long Beach, CA) increased the advantage, but the Falcons were able create some scoring opportunities to tie the game up at 19-19. Murrell and Brown did not slow up as they found the basket to, once again, put Regent back out in front. The score would be tied at 25-25 but Murrell continued to find her range, hitting another three-pointer to put the Royals back out in front again. The last few minutes were a back-and forth between the two teams and as they headed into the half, the score was tied 32-32.

The Falcons took the early two-point lead after halftime, and then went on a run to increase their advantage to 40-32. Two free throws by Freshman Zandie Smith (Cayman Islands) trimmed the deficit to six points, but the Royals would continue to trail for the next few minutes. Regent was able to put together a run and get the lead to three points with 54 seconds remaining but, unfortunately, fell by a final score of 70-66.

Brown led the Royals with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 3 steals, while Senior Kaila Murrell (Long Beach, CA) finished with 16 points and 3 three-pointers. In addition, Glisson and Kali Murrell each added 10 points. Regent will be back in action on Friday November 10th, as they travel across town to face Virginia Wesleyan University. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00pm.
