Columbia, SC - Regent University Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field season came to a close on Friday after the three-day NCCAA National Championship meet hosted by Columbia International University.
Men's Track & Field Standouts -
Freshman
Kevin Cropper earned third place and All-American Honors in his first event of the meet, the men's high jump. Cropper also picked up fourth place in the triple jump and sixth place in the long jump, scoring 12 points during the meet to lead all Regent Royals. With his 3rd place finsih Kevin becomes the first male track and field athlete to earn All-American honors.
Freshman
Lucas Hubbard had a strong showing in the men's javelin, setting a new PR.
Women's Track & Field Standouts -
Sophomore
Rebecca Garcia had a busy Thursday competing in three events. Garcia finished tenth in the high Jump, clearing 1.42 meters. She then competed in the 100-meter prelim, in which she set a new personal best time. Garcia would close the meet, just missing her PR race in the 200-meter dash.
Senior and Captain
Caitlyn Chesson ran the final collegiate race of her career in the women's 400 meters.
Grad student,
Kelsey Goodson, ran a new personal best time in the women's 800-meter race with 2:32.31.
Coaches Notes -
On this year's nationals, Head Coach Cid Guridy said, "A great ending to a building season. All saw marked improvements over the past month, and the realization of what next year may bring is now in the heart of many as they work out over the summer to better perfect the talents that God has blessed them with so richly."
Team Notes -
Three Regent Royals were named scholar-athletes by the NCCAA after completing the semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.4 or higher. Congrats to Graduate-Student
