Danville, VA – The Regent Women's Soccer team opened their 2023 regular season on the road Saturday afternoon at Averett University. This was a big test for Coach Christine Moorehead's squad, as they were facing a Cougars team that is an NCAA DIII and Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) member. However, that did not phase the Royals, as they would go to-to-toe with Averett all the way to the end of the game, but unfortunately come up short, falling by a final score of 3-2.  

Sophomore Avery Bravo (Victorville, CA) led Regent with two goals on the day, while the team as a whole out shot the Cougars by a six to three margin. The Royals defense shut down a number of scoring opportunities to keep pace with Averett and that allowed the offense to keep them in the game. While it was not the desired outcome, the young Regent team proved that they are prepared and capable of playing with some of the stronger teams in the region. 

The Royals will return to action on Tuesday, August 29th as they travel south to North Carolina to face NAIA member St. Andrews University. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
