Sweet Briar, VA – After an exciting finish on Tuesday, the Regent Women's Soccer team traveled west for another road game, as they faced Sweet Briar College Friday afternoon. The goal was to carry the momentum from Tuesday into today's game and there would be no let down, as the Royals came out dominating the offensive side of the field to earn the win, 4-1.
At the beginning of the first half, Regent put constant pressure on the Vixens defense and eventually at the 18:22 mark of the game it would pay off when Freshman Olivia Charles (Barboursville, WV) converted a low right shot to give the Royals the lead, 1-0. Charles would do it again, after receiving a pass from fellow Freshman Ashli Perez (Virginia Beach, VA), to increase the advantage to 2-0. Regent continued to pressure the goal for the remainder of the half and they would take the two-goal advantage into halftime.
Less than a minute into the second half, Sweet Briar found the net to trim the deficit to one, but 20 minutes later, Freshman Rhyan Primmer (Stafford, VA) found Freshman Ally Lejarza (Houston, TX) for the Royals third goal of the game. They would add another, with just under nine minutes remaining, when Freshman Ayden Malloy (Laconia, NH) converted on a high shot and that would seal the game as Regent earned their first win of the season, 4-1.
The Royals dominated in shots with 46 and 29 on goal. In addition, they earned six corner kicks to the Vixens zero, while the goalkeepers, Freshmen Gracie Madden (Ashland, KY) and Kristen Miller (Peoria, AZ) combined for five saves, to help with the win. Regent will return to action on Wednesday September 6th when they host William Peace University at Norfolk Christian Upper School. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
