Norfolk, VA – After a week off, the Regent Men's Soccer team was back in action as they hosted NAIA member Saint Andrews University Tuesday night at Norfolk Christian. The Royals were looking to get back into the win column, but the Knights were looking to do the same as both teams were coming off a loss. Unfortunately, Regent would fall at home by a score of 5-0.
Eight minutes into the first half, Saint Andrews drilled a 20-yard shot into the left corner to take the early lead, 1-0. They would add another at the 21st minute to increase the advantage to two goals and then follow that up with another for the lead, 3-0. While the Royals were able to generate some pressure offensively, they could not break through and after another Knights score, they would go into halftime trailing, 4-0.
The second half saw Freshman Connor Henriques (Spotsylvania, VA) make some big saves, which slowed down Saint Andrews' momentum. Freshman Tyler Hambright (Stevens, PA) had one of the best scoring opportunities of the game for Regent but, unfortunately, was unable to get the ball past the Saint Andrews goalkeeper. The Knights would add one more score before the final horn and hand the Royals the loss, 5-0.
Regent will return to action on Friday, September 15th, as they travel to Ashland, VA for a match-up with Randolph-Macon College. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
