Norfolk, VA – The tropical storm may have rolled through Hampton Roads, but it could not stop the Regent University Volleyball team from continuing their winning ways as they swept Hollins University in front of a packed and spirited crowd Saturday afternoon at the KROC Center. It was the eighth win of the season for the Royals and their first of the year against a NCAA Division III program.
The first set was back-and-forth with both teams creating scoring opportunities, but Regent was able to close it out by a score of 25-22. The second set would see the Royals cruise to a win, 25-15 and then after jumping ahead early, Regent held on for a hard fought third set win, 25-22, to earn the overall match win, 3-0.
The duo of Freshman Nicole Walston (Wake Forest, NC) and Junior Jordan Banister (Chesapeake, VA) each recorded 10 kills, while Freshman Erin Saunders (Danville, VA) led the Royals with 12 digs. Walston also led the team with three service aces and Banister and Sophomore Makayla Daniels (Chesapeake, VA) each had two. In addition, Regent, as a team, had a total of nine service aces.
The Royals will be back in action on Tuesday, September 26th when they host Washington Adventist University at the KROC Center. First serve is scheduled for 6:00pm.
