Buena Vista, VA – The Regent University Men's Soccer team hit the road for a Monday afternoon match-up with NCAA Division III and USA South Member Southern Virginia University. The Royals are no stranger to Division III schools, as they continue to strengthen their schedule each year. The Knights would present a challenge, but Regent do not back down.
The first half saw the Royals go toe-to-toe with Southern Virginia, with Freshman Connor Henriques (Spotsylvania, VA) turning away two shots, while Sophomore Graylan Gill (Hanover, VA) was able to create two scoring opportunities. Neither team could find the back of the net and as the first 45 minutes expired the score would remain at 0-0. However, 10 minutes into the second half, the Knights broke through and put one past Henriques to grab the advantage, 1-0. They would do it again to increase the lead to two goals, however, after a penalty, Gill converted a penalty kick to trim the lead to 2-1. Unfortunately, a last second corner kick was unsuccessful, as Regent would fall by a final score of 2-1.
The Royals will be back in action on Friday, September 29th as they travel south to Wilson, NC for a match-up with Barton College. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00pm.
