Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Royals battle with talented NCAA teams, Saint Mary's and Neumann, in Maryland

Saint Mary's, MD – On Saturday afternoon, the Regent Women's Volleyball team traveled to Maryland for the first time this season, for a tri-match with Saint Mary's College and Neumann University. The day would prove to be a day of tough competition against the two NCAA Division III programs, but the Royals were prepared to battle any adversity they faced in the matches.

Match One

The first set against the Knights was back-and-forth, with Neumann taking the lead in the first set, but Regent staged a comeback only to fall short 25-22. The second set began with both teams trading the first 16 points to be tied at 8-8, but the Knights began a run and ultimately won the set by a score of 25-12. The third set was similar to the first, and the Royals came back to tie it at 20-20 and then proceeded to dominate at the net, to earn the hard-fought set win, 25-22.  Unfortunately, Regent would fall in another close set, in the fourth, 25-23, to drop the match, 3-1.

The Royals were led by Sophomore Nicole Walston (Wake Forest, NC) with 19 kills, while Junior Shaley Wertz (Kansas City, MO) recorded a team high 20 assists and Freshman Erin Saunders (Danville, VA) finished with 18 digs and 5 service aces.

Match Two

Regent would face a very talented Seahawks team, as Saint Mary's won the first two sets by scores of 25-15 and 25-17. They fought hard in the third set but unfortunately fell 25-18 to take the loss 3-0. Walston, once again, led the Royals with 8 kills, while Saunders finished with 11 digs and 4 service aces.

Regent will be back in action on Saturday, October 7th for another tri-match when they travel to Bridgewater College. First serve is scheduled for 1:00pm.
