Regent scores most points in program history in win over Appalachian Bible, 103-53

Virginia Beach, VA – The Regent University Women's Basketball team began the second half of the 2023-2024 season at home by hosting Appalachian Bible College on Friday night. The teams previously met a few months ago, with the Royals coming away with the win and they were looking to come away with the same result today. Not only would they defeat the Warriors, but the Royals were able to put together a game that saw them score a school record in the win, 103-53.

Coming back from the Christmas break, Senior Kaila Murrell (Long Beach, CA) picked up where she left off and led Regent with a game high 29 points, while grabbing 9 rebounds. Her performance helped the Royals jump out to a large lead in the first quarter, putting Regent ahead 31-10. In addition, Junior Nevaeh Ivory (Charlottesville, VA) had a breakout game scoring 20 points to go along with her 15 points, pacing her team to a big halftime lead, 56-17.

Senior Kali Murrell (Long Beach, CA) continued her offensive domination, finishing the game with 17 points and newcomer Junior Layla Turner (Portsmouth, VA), who was playing in her first game with the Royals, scored 11 points, while going a perfect 3-3 from the free throw line to end the third quarter ahead 73-33. Sophomore Lyriq Reyes (Livingston, NJ) and Junior Courtney Rowley (Lusk, WY) each finished with 10 points and Rowley was second on the team in rebounds with 11, while fellow Junior Desiree Cross (Woodbridge, VA) added six points in the record setting win, 103-53.

Regent will be back in action on Monday, January 15th as they host Christendom College as a part of a doubleheader. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30pm.
